Norway's Tommy Tee started out as a graffiti artist and break dancer in Oslo when the hip-hop phenomenon invaded Scandinavia in the early 80's. His interest in DJ'ing grew and after doing mix-tapes and playing in the clubs, he got offered his own radio show at a Oslo station called Rainbow Radio in 1986. He quickly became the Music Director, and when NRK (the official Norwegian television and radio broadcasting company) launched their new national station P3, Tommy Tee got offered his two hours prime-time show called The National Rap Show. The program is one of the country's most popular shows, with more than 100,000 listeners every Friday. (Great rating in a country with only 4,5 million people). The show is also broadcasted live on internet: www.nrk.no/nrs . International acts that have been interviewed on Tee's radio show include Snoop Dogg, Big Pun, Funkmaster Flex, Black Moon, The Roots, much more. Tommy Tee also hosted a video rap show called Planet Groove (long before Rachel started on BET.)

In 1989 Tommy Tee started Norway's only hip-hop magazine Fat Cap. After ten years Tee is still the editor-in-chief and the magazine has become one of the world's leading grafitti magazines, with global distribution through Tower Books. Tee has also been arranging and promoting concerts with acts like Fugees, Das EFX, Gunshot, Ice Cube, A Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC, and De La Soul. Tommy Tee started producing music in the late 80's. His first milestone as an artist was supporting Ice Cube's concert in Oslo in 1990.

In 1992 the Danish record company Mega Records opened their Norwegian office and hired Tee as the Sales Manager. Three years later he left the company and started Norway's main hip-hop label, Tee Productions.

Tee's first full-length album production was for jazz-artist Helйn Eriksen in 1995. Eriksen got picked up by the legendary jazz-label Blue Note through EMI and successfully released her critically acclaimed album "Standards" in Europe and Japan. Helйn Eriksen received a Norwegian Grammy for Best New Artist in 1996.

Tommy Tee is one of the few persons in Scandinavia with such a long, consistent, and active hip-hop history. Because Tee has paid so much dues, earned mad respect and built up an international network of contacts, he has often been criticized for having too much power. Especially in a social democracy as Norway. Some acts claim that his position gives him an unfair monopoly when it comes to breaking new artists, and that he does not give enough acts enough airplay, etc. However, most people agree that most of this critique is bitter non-sense and jealousy.

After a decade of music production for other artists Tee finally did his own album "Bonds, Beats and Beliefs". All the tracks were produced by Tommy Tee - who even put down a few rhymes himself - but the album featured a strong line-up of ridiculous rap cats. The Tee Productions roster represented lovely and included Warlocks (Norway's most successful rap crew of all time), N-Light-N (Norway's most respected and critically acclaimed rapper), Spanish-Norwegian MC Diaz, and Opaque. The rest of the vocals were done by some of the finest U.S. Eastcoast's finest:
Legendary Juice Crew member Craig G represented with his partner in rhyme, Will Pack. Brick City rapper El The Sensei blessed the track "International Connects" with Mike Zoot - one of Brooklyn's newer rap-talent. Zoot is best known for "High Drama" with Mos Def, and "Midnight Run" with Tek from Cocoa Brovaz. El The Sensei released two albums on Atlantic as one half of the Artifacts. The Tommy Tee track was one of the first songs he recorded without his former partner Tame One. Talib Kweli is the main man behind the group Reflection Eternal which released one of 1997's biggest indie-singles "Fortified Live" on Rawkus Records. Talib Kweli and Mos Def broke up from the underground the following year as Black Star, and Kweli was featured on "Day By Day" with Punch & Words and A.L. This was Tommy Tee's first commercially available single in the the U.S. Punch & Words was featured on A Tribe Called Quest's last album and Punch also had a single with Ras Kass. IGOff and Hazadous are signed to DJ Spinna's label Beyond Real and they are currently working on new material.

Another (former) Rawkus artist Tommy worked with on "Bonds, Beats & Beliefs" was Shabaam Sahdeeq who had an underground hit last summer with Xzbit. F.T. (of Street Smartz fame) created a crazy buzz on the hip-hop scene with the single "Metal Thangz" featuring O.C. and Pharoahe Monch, and on Tee's album he teamed up with Queens native P Dap on the track "Blood Rush". F.T. is now signed to Stretch Armstrong's 550 Music imprint Spit, Inc.

COD Crew is one of the few original crews consisting of both MC's and graf writers. These hip-hop veterans were Tommy Tee's first contacts in New York. The Bronx crew together with singer Debbie Dro, did the track "It's All True". Cover recently got signed to Tommy Boy Records and released a single with Memphis Bleek.

Originally from Virginia, Shawn J. Period has produced for artists as Q-Tip, Tash, Mos Def, Mike Zoot, Artifacts and more. He added his funky touch (this time singing) on the Tommy Tee track "Hip-Hop Love" with labelmates Star Orion and Wizdom Life.

Zombi Squad is one of Europe's veteran rap crews. Tee invited them to Norway to do a show and to lace the track "The Conjunction". Also featured on the album are Black Sun, Basheeba Earth, Tru Personna from Network Reps, and Norwegian singer Line. "Bonds, Beats and Beliefs" was recorded at D&D Studios (NYC) and Tee Studios (Oslo), and was mixed at D&D by Tommy Tee and veteran engineer Kieran Walsh.

The album was released in Norway June 2, 1998 and went straight to the # 8 spot on the official album-chart. The album's first single - "Takin Ova" - was in the Top 10 in Norway for eight weeks. "Bonds, Beats and Beliefs" received 5 and 6 (out of 6) from the main Norwegian music critics and great reviews in Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Germany and England. Needless to say, it ended up being Norway's most successful rap album ever. The set was not released in the U.S., but many American heads bought the album on import and it received much love from college radio, DJ's, and hip-hop magazines in the U.S.

Tommy Tee's "T.P. Allstars: Norske Byggeklosser" album made its debut in the Top 5 on the Norwegian album chart. Legendary producer/DJ/rapper Pete Rock is one of the most well known guest artist featured on set. When Pete Rock visited Norway to promote his album, he hooked up with Tee and laid the hook for "T.P. Allstars"'s first single, "World Renown". The track was finished in New York with contribution from Mike Zoot, Large Professor (of Main Source fame, production for Nas, Slick Rick, much more), and Bronx' veteran AG (Show & AG/DITC).

"World Renown" was released in the U.S. December 1999 on Tee Productions/ Guesswhyld with distribution through Fat Beats. The B-side features "No Holds Barred" with vocals by infamous Brooklynites M.O.P., Queens MC Royal Flush, Matt Fingaz, and with F.T. of Street Smartz on the hook. The single received great reviews in the American music press. Billboard Magazine concluded that "hip-hop has now officially gone global" and The Source called the single "Contender for Indie Release Of The Year".

Returning vocal guests include Bronx MCs/Graffiti-kingpins COD Crew who did "Diamond Sales". IGOff & Hazadous also returned for Tee's second album. Currently working on material for their new label, the Far Rockaway/Bronx duo laced Tommy Tee's beats with the melodic, dreamy track "Ready For Me". BK/Brick City tag-team Mike Zoot & El The Sensei continued to represent with "International Connects Part 2".

European acts on this version of the album include BMG Sweden recording artist Petter who won three Swedish Grammy awards last year. Tommy Tee produced two songs on Petter's new album "Bananrepubliken" which went platinum in Sweden. On the "T.P. Allstars" album Petter hooked up with T.P. rapper Diaz for "Crossing Borders" - the first Norwegian/ Swedish rap-collaboration on record. The single has already been a Top 10 hit in Scandinavia, with a video clip on MTV Europe. Other European MCs include Shockwave, from Zombi Squad, who joins N-Light-N on the track "Medallions". The album was recorded at Tee Studios in Oslo and D&D Studios in New York. Diaz released his solo album on Tee Productions last summer. Tommy Tee produced all the tracks which features Mista Sinista - the founding member of the X-exutioners, Channel Live, Cover, and more. The next albums from Tee Productions were Opaque's debut album "Gourmet Garbage" , released October 2001, Warlocks' forth album "Afterlife" and Son Of Light's (N-Light-N) "The Homecoming EP" . Every set was critically acclaimed by the streets as well as the media.

In February 2002 Tommy Tee released a new hot single through Fat Beats with three tracks with Nice & Smooth, Heltah Skeltah, OGC, 8-Off Agallah and Souls Of Mischief. He is currently working on new projects with acts from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the US.

Поздрав ! ;)
