LOOP TROOP - BIOGRAPHY

Looptroop, then consisting of Cosmic, Promoe and DJ Embee, was formed in '93, although Embee and Promoe had been making songs since '91. The three met in school and were confident from day one naming their first tape Superstars ('93). When Embee came back from one year in the US they dropped their second tape Threesicksteez ('95) which featured Supreme on a couple of tracks. He became a full member of the troop the following year when all four of them released From the Wax Cabinet ('96).

In the years that followed up till their first full length release in 2000 they built a firm reputation through their own record label David vs. Goliath on which they were the first Swedish rap group to independently record and put out records.

They also did shows with big underground acts from the US such as Arsonists, High & Mighty, Mass Influence, Non Phixion, Pharoahe Monch, Genius and Xzibit.

On their first album Modern Day City Symphony they decided to work together with Burning Heart records to improve distribution. It was a groundbreaking album for Swedish hip hop acclaimed by the people as well as by the critics.

2001 was a year of solo projects for the members of the troop. Promoe released his first solo album Government Music on David vs. Goliath which was distributed by Groove Attack and Playground Music.
Cosmic and Embee put out an EP under the name Casual Brothers.

What has been really significant though for the years 2000-2002 in the Looptroop story is the massive amount of shows during this period. They have always toured alot but now they reached new territories an people. (Besides Scandinavia they've toured Germany, France, Switzerland, England, Spain, Canada, Iceland and Lithuania). This is also a big reason for the troop's popularity, since their videos and singles get little airplay. One of their songs in Swedish (Jag sköt Palme) even got banned from radio and another song (Ring Snuten) caused the Swedish police to sue public radio for playing what they considered slandering anti-cop propaganda, which it was, but the radio channel got acquitted (thank you freedom of speech!)
